Drill of The Month: Speed Control
This drill is a good way to work simple target transitions and speed control on one sheet of paper.
In any shooting discipline, a valuable skill to develop is effective target transitioning. This involves swiftly and accurately moving from one target to another while maintaining precision. Whether you're a competitive shooter, a law enforcement officer, or simply honing your marksmanship skills, the ability to smoothly transition between targets without sacrificing accuracy is critical.
This drill also works your ability to control speed when shooting to maintain accuracy. Effective speed control involves finding a balance between speed and precision, ensuring that each shot is deliberate and on target. Training regularly at various tempos helps develop the ability to adjust shooting speed according to the situation. This skill can be beneficial when transitioning from a close target to a target that is farther away or partially covered.
The Drill:
Begin from the holster at 5 yards. Put 4 rounds in the top circle, 2 rounds in the middle circle, and a single round in the black dot. This can be shot in any order you want. The goal is to be able to put rounds on the large circle at a relatively quick pace and have to slow down to get good hits on the progressively smaller circles.
